At the Door Program

As YES moves into its 25th year, we continue to see increased community need and demand on services for youth and families experiencing a housing crisis. One such initiative is to support the countless community members who are facing extreme food insecurity.

At the Door, a new food, and basic necessities support program, offers healthy snacks, basic hygiene items and, clothing supplies for anyone who comes to our door. Officially launched February 12, 2024 as an emergency winter response to a desperate community need, this program was made possible for the first time through funding provided by United Way Peterborough & District, as part of the Government of Canada’s Reaching Home program.

At the Door proved to be far too vital of a program to end when funding finished.

Available to any community member who comes to our door in need, on average 65-75 individuals per day visit YES’ front door to receive vital high protein snacks, fruits, cheese sticks and drinks to keep them going through their day.

With no formal funding, YES relies on community funding and our supporters to provide nutritious snacks and drinks through our At the Door Program.

Last year, 10,487 food supports were provided to seniors, youth, adults and children through our At the Door program and, volunteers invested 481 hours to facilitate this initiative. In 2025, the demand has doubled and we are seeking a total of $92,000 in community fundraising to meet this ever-growing need in our community.
