Legacy Giving
Legacy gifts (also called planned gifts and estate gifts) are a way to ensure the values and causes that mean the most to you are supported well into the future.
Please note: YES’s official name is Youth Emergency Shelter Of Peterborough Incorporated (established in 2000). This is the name that should be used on any legal documents.
Have your legacy promise a better path for youth and families
By naming Youth Emergency Shelter Of Peterborough Incorporated as a recipient in your will, you can help ensure that:
- Our Emergency Shelter will be able to continue helping youth and families in dire need of our services for many years to come
- YES’ RISE Youth Housing Program will continue to help youth exit homelessness, and enter into a productive and stable adulthood
- Our outreach team will keep helping at-risk youth in the community and effectively prevent them from experiencing homelessness
It’s easy and it costs you nothing to make this gift now. And it doesn’t require assistance from lawyers or advisors (although you can and should feel free to consult with experts before making any donation).
RRSPs, RIFs or Life Insurance Policies
One option, if you have a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Registered Retirement Income Fund (RIF) or Life Insurance policy, is simply to request a Multiple Beneficiary Designation Form from the administrator of your plan. Fill out the form and name Youth Emergency Shelter Of Peterborough Incorporated, #893960013RR0001, as one of the beneficiaries and return the completed and signed form to your plan administrator.
Including YES in your will
If you are making a new will, our suggested wording for a specific gift is the following:
To pay Youth Emergency Shelter Of Peterborough Incorporated, 893960013RR0001, the sum of $___ for such use and purpose as the Board of Directors may determine.
If you intend to make a residual gift to YES, here is our recommended wording:
To pay Youth Emergency Shelter Of Peterborough Incorporated, 893960013RR0001, the residue (or share of the residue) of my Estate for such use and purpose as the Board of Directors may determine.
Another option, if you already have a will in place, is to add a “codicil” including Youth Emergency Shelter Inc. as an additional beneficiary of your estate. A codicil is simply a modification or amendment to your will. You can designate that YES would receive either a specific amount, or a residual gift (meaning that after all your other bequests are honoured, the balance of your estate would go to YES.
A sample codicil can be found here.
We’d happy to speak with you about this and learn more about what you would like your legacy to look like.
