8 ways to help end homelessness in Peterborough
Are you worried about homelessness in Peterborough? Here are 8 ways to help youth and families struggling with homelessness in our community this winter:
1. Participate in Giving Tuesday
After all of the purchasing that comes with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it can feel good to give back. Give to YES on #GivingTuesday (Dec 3, 2019) via Gauvereau and Associates’ campaign page and they will match your gift up to $2500.
That means if you give via this link, your donation with be doubled. Don’t miss this chance! UPDATE: This campaign has been extended until December 15th. You have until then to have your donation matched by Gauvereau and Associates in Peterborough.
2. Become a monthly donor
Did you hear? YES purchased a 12-plex to help expand our Rise Youth Housing Program. This means that 14 more youth experiencing homelessness will have a place to call home.
But here’s the catch: we need your help to keep it going. Becoming a monthly donor is the best way to help us solve youth homelessness in Peterborough.
To start donating to YES monthly (or to make a one time donation), visit yesshelter.ca/donate.
3. Spread the word about YES
It’s time to spread the word that YES is an organization actively working to prevent and resolve youth and family homelessness in Peterborough City and County. This December, we’ve sent information across the Peterborough area in an effort to increase community support of YES.
If you receive an envelope that looks like this, take a look inside. And if you are already a YES hero, please pass this on to someone else who could be interested in joining us in ending youth homelessness in this community.
4. Read our latest newsletter
Always focusing on the resilience of youth and families who experience homelessness, this newsletter tells the stories of people stabilizing and moving on to thrive with the support of YES’ services.
5. Attend the In From the Cold Concert
Started by a group of talented local musicians, the In From the Cold Concert has supported the YES Shelter for Youth and Families since it’s inception, 20 years ago.
In From the Cold specializes in musical gems that you won’t hear at other Christmas concerts. At Market Hall, Dec 6th and 7th, this year’s concert offers an enchanting mix of Celtic-style carols, traditional Swedish holiday songs, and seasonal music performed by some of Peterborough’s top folk and roots musicians.
6. Add Banff International Film Festival tickets to your holiday gift list
Know anyone in Peterborough who loves the snow, and loves adventure?
Every year, Wildrock Outfitters hosts the Banff International Film Festival in Peterborough. And if you get tickets for Monday, January 13th, you are also supporting the YES Shelter for Youth and Families.
This special festival event will include the films, snacks at intermission, and the warm and fuzzy feeling of helping your community.
It’s a great gift for the outdoor adventurer in your life.
7. Take a look at our Amazon wish list
There’s a neat new way to give to YES. Our wish list currently features a link to Amazon, and if you click, you will find items that the shelter and our youth housing program need.
If you purchase any of these items for us via the wish list, it gets delivered directly to 196 Brock St.
It’s a very a satisfying way to support YES.
8. Support us when cashing out at Home Depot
December 3rd is the launch of the Peterborough Home Depot’s Orange Door Campaign. Up to Dec. 22, you can donate to YES when making purchases at Home Depot on Lansdowne.
This campaign has been a huge support of YES over the years. A great big thanks goes to all of the employees who ask everyone who comes through their till to give!
